Welcome to Technical Drafting.

  • The aim of this class is two fold. First, to get you to the point where you can take a 3D object and draft it (and visa verse -- to read a blueprint and visualize it in 3D). The second goal is to introduce you to many of the industrial standards in drafting.
  • The only supplies you should need are a single folder to hold your drawings. Pencils, erasures, paper, and other tools will be supplied. All of these will stay in the room for the semester.
  • Grading will be based 90% on your drawings and 10% on your classroom responsibilities.

Sorry I'm out sick today, and I don't have my textbooks with me. What I wanted to progress into was dimensioning your drawings. If memory serves, I handed out a classroom text at the beginning of the year, if I didn't, there are two different books on the back left bookshelf--one is skinny & blue and the other black & red I think. Take 10 minutes or so to look through those to find the chapter discussing dimensions and learn about the basics of dimensioning. Topics of importance are where to put the dimensions, spacing off the object, type of pencil, and arrow heads.
Assignment: Do problem #6 on the first page of this handout. All of the dimensions are there, in their proper places, so make your drawing look just the same, while adding the 3rd view.

Oct16

Today we did the assignment above, since it didn't get done in my absence.

Oct 18

You finished off Fig. 6.52 Drawing #6.

Oct 22

I returned you last drawings and discussed the mark-ups.
Assignment: We started Fig 6.53 Drawing #4.

Oct 24

We spent most of the day finishing off Drawing #4. Also went to the shop to discuss how to make sharpening a TIG lead safer using the grinding wheel.

Oct 26

Between now and the end of the quarter (a week away) you are tasked with drawing any 2 drawings between from this handout. Consider which view should be F, R, & T and placement of dimension.
